Media Award for Robbie Savage

Robbie Savage is celebrating today after winning a major national radio award from the Plain English Campaign.

The Macesport client has been announced as winner of the Plain English Campaign Best National Radio Programme for his work on the BBC Radio Five LIVE 606 show.

Chrissie Maher from Plain English Campaign said; "Based on public opinion, BBC Radio Five Live is fortunate in having more than its fair share of well-respected commentators, but recent addition Robbie Savage has quickly gathered a growing fan club for his plain speaking.

"I know that some of our sports commentators are probably best out in the game rather than in the studio, but Robbie has won the hearts of people on both counts.

"He understands what he’s talking about and he doesn’t make a big deal about it. He goes on air just like when he is out on the field – straight to the point and no messing.”
Macesport managing director Paul Mace said: "This award is richly deserved for Robbie.

"Underneath the brash exterior is a person who takes his broadcasting duties extremely diligently and seriously.

"He is always willing to learn and puts in a tremendous amount of effort to constantly improve himself.

"He has a unique direct approach which proves extremely popular with the 'man on the street' and this is reflected with the winning of this award.

"Mind you, I am sure he will now be completely unbearable. I've spent 25 years in the media and never won a single award for my use of English so I know I'm never going to hear the last of it from him."

Robbie Savage said: "I'm completely overwhelmed. To think that a boy from Wrexham can win this award so early into my broadcasting career.

"It genuinely is a great honour. I love doing my radio work and know that I've still got an awful lot to learn.

"It's a good job it's for plain English. If it was for plain Welsh, I would have been struggling !!!
